Our Summer Mission Project

As part of our Community Mission work this summer, we are collecting back-packs that will be given to children in need at our local elementary school. Our goal is to collect 35-40 backpacks.

Backpacks donated should be:

  1. New
  2. Of good quality
  3. With neutral, age-appropriate decoration (no action figures, sports teams or commercial endorsements)

Look for the poster and the collection basket in the narthex. Each backpack donated gets a sicker on the poster. Lets fill up the poster with 35+ stickers, supporting the children in our local community!  Pick a back-pack up when you do your weekly shopping, or order a good back-pack online. A huge thanks to Beverly Goertzen (see her article below) and our Mission Committee for organizing and providing leadership for this project.

In Christ,

Celebrating Lianne and Ralph

Sunday July 24 during the 9:30 AM service we will be offering special prayers for the marriage of Ralph Wyatt and Lianne Thompson.

You are invited to a  party with the family on Saturday, July 23 at the Pine Grove Community House from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Come anytime.

Let’s Reach Our Goal!
Buy Backpacks for Nehalem School Kids

The backpack program has officially been launched. There are 3 backpacks in the narthex (entry) at Saint Catherine’s in case any of you would like to take a look at them. All 3 are from LL Bean.  Some of you may have heard the NPR segment on LL Bean’s return policy. Everything is guaranteed and can be returned for a replacement.  That’s a great incentive to buy a backpack from LL Bean! They have a sale on the backpacks through August 28 and shipping is always free. They have a very good selection of sturdy bags that should be large enough to hold the food items that are sent home for the weekend. There is a tally board so we can see our progress toward the goal of 35 backpacks. (see last week’s Tidings for more information)

It is so wonderful to have support in our community for this project. Of course you may purchase backpacks wherever you wish as you kindly keep in mind to provide backpacks free of violent or sexist content or characters. Please call or email me if you have any questions about the Back-pack  Program so far.

Thank you for supporting this endeavor.

Note from Ann+: If you buy online have the backpacks delivered to your home as the church does not have someone there all the time to accept deliveries. Thanks for your generosity.
